Music
Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.
– Plato
At Carnforth High School, Music is a practical, inclusive, and ambitious subject where every student makes, performs, and responds to music as a musician. Our curriculum is built around developing real musical skills: singing, playing instruments, composing, listening with understanding, and working together in ensembles.
Students experience a broad range of musical styles and traditions while building the core knowledge and techniques needed to perform confidently and creatively. Lessons are highly practical—whether learning ukulele or keyboard, developing vocal technique, creating beats and remixes in a DAW, exploring film music, or performing as part of a band.
We aim to create a classroom environment where students feel able to take risks, try new ideas, rehearse with purpose, and enjoy the shared experience of music-making. Schemes of learning are carefully sequenced and differentiated so that all students can progress, achieve, and feel proud of what they can do.
Music at Carnforth High School encourages teamwork, creativity, resilience, and self-expression—but above all, it offers every student the chance to discover the joy and power of performing and creating music.
